Sew a Garden

Tonight is a falling seed caught in the yoke of its own tree

There is no wind, no moonlight, and no neighbors arguing

There is not even a flickering streetlight or a piece of newspaper blowing

down the alley

There is only a song, a dog at the chain link fence, a knife lying in a puddle,

and a river that most people have forgotten

I look to see if there is a needle in the bark

I tell myself I will sew a garden if there is.
